Art gives us the ability to express an understanding of ourselves, our relationships with others and our connection with divinity. In all forms of art whether fine arts or performance arts, the vibrations of the artist pour through the canvas or resonate in the notes of their work. Great art that reaches in to touch the core of our inner psyche and enlightens our being is timeless. Sadly so much art is an expression of a distorted and grotesque personality being unleashed into the public domain. Whilst such art may titillate and sensationalise, it fails to inspire humanity to greater deeds and ideals, and history will judge it accordingly.
Great photography where neither subject or artist are being exploited but where the images provide inspiration and draws our attention to the joy and wonder of our being and where we are in awe of our existence; this produces great vibrations. Similarly a beautifully cooked and presented meal, prepared with joy and love not only tastes delicious but also satisfies our nutritional needs, leaving us feeling healthy and content. Whatever work or service we are performing we can make it beautiful art or disjointed art depending upon our own vibrational balance. When we see art that has been produced by a realised soul, it strikes a harmonic chord within. Our being resonates with it and we feel our spirit is uplifted. This is the true gift of art.
Music It is said that the actual appreciation of music is experienced in the silence that immediately follows the sounds, i.e. the music helps us to bring our attention inward, away from all the external distractions and interruptions. It is the catalyst which leads us into the great reservoir of silence deep within. Here we feel and know the pure joy of being, a joy that knows no bounds and has no opposite. Music is a divine vehicle that can take us to a higher state. But not any music - music itself must be in tune with Spirit, in other words to emit divine vibrations. Indian classical music, which is based on the primal sound OM , emits such vibrations, and also many of the works written by the great Western classical music composers. Many of the titans who are considered geniuses in music were born realised souls (Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, to cite a few). The Indian Bhajans (songs of devotion) are steeped in the timeless traditions of eastern wisdom. They have been developed for the sole purpose of raising ones consciousness through recognition of the divine source, which permeates all things. Such tradition acknowledges and understands that indeed it is not ‘I’ who does the singing and the playing. These hands, this voice, these instruments are simply vehicles for the expression of divine awareness. Such music transcends all musical idioms.
Sahaja Yoga in Western Australia has produced two CD’s of such music for the benefit of all. See Sahaja Yoga Music Sales Link to listen to samples of this unique music. Poetry Along with inspiring art and music, poetry can awaken the sleeping spirit with its challenge, its transparency, its expressiveness. This section will include examples of great poetry, which will be changed regularly.
